2018 MMPL Organization and League Overview

  • League footprint is the greater Lansing area
  • Do the best we can to arrange divisions competitively and geographically

Dick's Bat Tryout Day and Discount Days

  • Bat tryout day @ former Prep Stars facility on March 10th 4-6 pm
    • Attendees will also get coupon to use towards a bat purchased that day or the following day
  • Discount Days 20% off most items set for March 24-26 and again on April 14th-15th
  • Blue Sombrero website
  • Bulk equipment orders available, uniform ordering

PONY Affiliation and Tournament Information

  • All teams will be registered through PONY
  • PONY has asked that we forward the following link on to you.It highlights some of the resources available to you as a PONY league member. It's viewable from https://pony.wistia.com/medias/5n9gepokq4

2018 PONY Changes

  • Bats must be USABat stamped or BBCOR -3
    • Players and coaches caught using illegal bats will be ejected from that game and the following game
    • Be sure to check - and have umpires and coaches ready to check - bats before every game…line them up outside the dugout
  • Pitch count rules by age - see handout (available for download from masonpony.org)
    • Be prepared to cover eligible pitchers before a game
    • Have something ready to show if need be - Gamechanger
    • On the handout…1 days rest does not mean he can pitch the next day…1 days rest means he pitches Tuesday, ineligible Wednesday, eligible again on Thursday
  • Age cutoff dates have changed - we're grandfathering in the older age groups and starting the new date with 8U

Team Registration Process and Fees

  • Teams registered (or postmarked) by 3/1 - $10 cheaper than base fee, per team
  • Teams registered (or postmarked) by 3/11 - regular base fee
  • After 3/11, you need to work with the league/coordinator directly and if approved, there is a $40 late fee
  • Trying this as a means to encourage getting the teams registered sooner…it's hard to get the teams placed before the scheduling meeting with registrations trickling in
  • The sooner everything is in, the sooner we can set divisions and open scheduling
  • Registration form available for download from masonpony.org

Team Rosters

  • Send rosters in…easiest at scheduling meeting, but do so before the first game (available for download from masonpony.org)

Division Formation and Scheduling Process

  • Aim for 7 teams in each division - play everyone 2 for 12 games
  • Scheduling meeting to be held at Mason Middle School on March 27th

MMPL Website

  • Masonpony.org
  • Score reporting - coaches (or coordinators if you prefer) will submit their own scores
    • ID and PW will be handed out to community coordinators at scheduling meeting
  • Important documents
  • League standings

Insurance, Coaching Application, Background Checks

  • Highly recommend insurance for each community
  • PONY recommends Gagliardi, we use them
  • Background checks also highly recommended for coaches and league officers

MMPL Tournament

  • EOS tournaments will begin Monday, July 9th due to the 4th of July falling on a Wednesday
  • Would help ensure it doesn't fall over two weekends
  • Always looking for hosts
  • Pitch count rules appear to be the same in the PONY rulebook

Umpire and Field Issues

  • Adopted a code of conduct (available for download from masonpony.org)
  • Verify your field dimensions meet the regulation distances in the PONY rulebook
  • Mason uses a rainout number for our home games - we make our decisions by 4pm
    • Prepaid phone works for us

Winter Workout Opportunities

  • Still have some time available at former Prep Stars - we can help direct you to the right person for that if your community is interested
  • We have pitching clinics beginning February 19th for 6 weeks at former Prep Stars facility
  • 8U and 10U clinics will run 3/10, 3/17, 3/24 at former Prep Stars facility
